Top 10 Best Smart Watches in 2022

If you’re looking for Smart Watches in 2022, there’s no shortage of options. However, finding the best option for you isn’t always easy, as there are so many great wearables to choose from, and what’s best for some people may not be the best fit for your wrist.

There’s a lot to think about when shopping for one, from the operating system to smartphone compatibility, price, fitness features, specs, and more.

Fortunately for you, we at TechRadar have tested the majority of the available options and have ranked the best of them in this guide, based on our personal preferences.

However, because our preferences may differ from yours, it’s worth investigating all of the options below – or at the very least reading our overviews so you know which ones to rule out.

You should also check whether the smartwatch you’re considering supports your phone – you can’t use an Apple Watch if you have an Android phone, and while Wear OS watches are compatible with iPhone, they’re not as good as Apple’s own wearables. Some Samsung watches include exclusive features available only to Samsung phone owners.

Consider whether the wearable has GPS, an ECG, or other features that are important to you. We’ve included a full specs list, as well as an overview and the key good and bad points, for each entry, so you won’t have to do much research to narrow down your options. If you’re interested in learning more, click through to our full review of each smartwatch.

Apple Watch 7

The best smartwatch… but you’ll need an iPhone

Processor: Apple S7

Onboard storage: 32GB

Battery: 18 hours

REASONS TO BUY

Brighter, larger screen, Faster charging

REASONS TO AVOID

Workouts are varied but basic, Battery life needs to be longer

The Apple Watch 7 is a flagship smartwatch that isn’t all that different from the Apple Watch 6, in some ways.

It has essentially the same chipset and few new features, but the Apple Watch 7’s new features are useful, particularly its larger screen, which is 20% larger but only a smidge larger on your wrist thanks to smaller bezels.

When interacting with the Apple Watch 7, the extra size makes all the difference, and the wearable also charges faster than ever. With those features added to the Apple Watch 6, which is still a fantastic smartwatch, the Apple Watch 7 is undeniably a fantastic smartwatch.

Better battery life and fitness features, according to our reviewer, would have made this wearable even better, but what it does have still impressed us.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

The best Samsung smartwatch

SPECIFICATIONS

OS: Wear OS

Processor: Dual-core 1.18GHz

Onboard storage: 16GB

Charging method: Wireless

IP rating: IP68

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE (for extra)

REASONS TO BUY

Excellent performance, Interesting new software

REASONS TO AVOID

Limited compatibility, Lacks rotating bezel

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is a wearable that has generated a lot of buzzes. Samsung is returning to Wear OS after using Tizen in recent models. But this isn’t your typical Wear OS – it’s a brand-new version of the operating system developed in collaboration with Samsung and featuring a Tizen-like skin on top.

That means you get the best of both worlds, with Wear OS’s functionality and apps combined with Tizen’s look and feel.

With great performance, a comfortable fit, a lightweight build, and intriguing new body composition measurement tools, this is a top smartwatch, particularly for those interested in tracking their health and fitness.

However, because some of its features require a Samsung phone and there is no support for iPhones, we can’t recommend the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 to everyone. If you already own a recent Galaxy Watch, it’s also debatable whether it’s worth upgrading to.

Apple Watch SE

Apple Watch SE

REASONS TO BUY

Premium design, Great price for Apple Watch

REASONS TO AVOID

Lacks always-on display, The battery could be better

The Apple Watch SE is one of the best smartwatches money can buy right now, but only if you own an iPhone is it the right choice for you.

If you own an iPhone, you might be wondering why the Apple Watch 6 isn’t higher on the list. That’s because the Apple Watch SE offers nearly all of the features of a smartwatch at a much lower price.

The Apple Watch SE has high-end specs, a high-end design, and a wide range of features that aren’t currently available on any other smartwatch.

According to our tests, the Apple Watch SE’s battery life isn’t the best on the market, and there isn’t an always-on display, but if you’re looking for a great value for money wrist companion, the Apple Watch SE is the way to go.

Built-in GPS, Lightweight and comfortable

REASONS TO AVOID

Poor side button, No offline Spotify

Don’t care for anything from Samsung or Apple? Fitbit Versa 3 is one of the best wrist companions for those who want to focus on fitness features, and this latest smartwatch from the company is one of the best wrist companions for those who want to focus on fitness features.

There’s built-in GPS, we found it to be comfortable to wear, and the display is clear and easy to read. This, like previous Fitbit smartwatches, is primarily designed for fitness and will not appeal to everyone.

The Fitbit Versa 3 is a good option for general wearable fans, and it’s also more affordable than some of the other options on this list.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

Best Smart Watches in 2022 for Tizen smartwatch

SPECIFICATIONS

OS: Tizen OS

Compatibility: Android, iOS

Display: 1.2″ or 1.4″ 360 x 360 Super AMOLED

Processor: Dual-core 1.15GHz

Onboard storage: 8GB

Battery duration: 3 days on 45mm / lesson 41mm

Charging method: Wireless

IP rating: IP68

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE (for extra)

REASONS TO BUY

Great, premium design, Rotating bezel is useful

REASONS TO AVOID

The battery could be better, Tizen apps are limited

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 3 is one of the best smartwatches for Android users. It does, however, work with an iPhone. It’s a follow-up to the Galaxy Watch from 2018, and it retains many of the same design elements while improving on them.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 has a rotating bezel that makes navigating the smartwatch a breeze. We find this much more convenient than attempting to use the display, which is required on many of the other best smartwatches on this list.

The watch’s app selection is limited compared to Wear OS and watchOS, two rival smartwatch operating systems, but it still provides the essentials, and Samsung has created a watch that is good for fitness as well as having a great design and a lot more functionality.

If you’re using this with an iPhone, the features are more limited, but it’s still compatible. However, if you’re looking for a new phone, an Apple Watch is a good option. Overall, if you’re looking for a smartwatch that can track your fitness, look good on your wrist, and do a lot more, the Galaxy Watch 3 is the complete package.

Fitbit Sense

Fitbit Sense

The second best Fitbit

SPECIFICATIONS

OS: Fitbit OS

Compatibility: Android, iOS

Display: 1.58″ AMOLED

Processor: N/A

Onboard storage: 4GB

Battery duration: 6+ days

Charging method: Magnetic connecting pin

IP rating: Water resistant to 5ATM

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC

REASONS TO BUY

Built-in GPS, Lightweight and comfortable

REASONS TO AVOID

Poor side button, No offline Spotify

With advanced health and fitness features like an ECG, stress monitoring, heart rate zones, and skin temperature measurements, the Fitbit Sense is both stylish and impressive.

It has an intriguing feature set, and it comes with all of the essentials you’d expect from a fitness-focused smartwatch, such as tracked workouts, GPS, a voice assistant (Alexa or Google Assistant), and meditation tools.

The Fitbit Sense has a stainless-steel case and a sharp screen, and it feels like the whole package, except that some of its features are locked behind the Fitbit Premium paywall. If you’re happy to subscribe, this is a great option; however, if you’d rather make a one-time purchase, be aware that you won’t be able to do so.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2

Best Smart Watches in 2022 for fitness-focused Tizen watch

SPECIFICATIONS

OS: Tizen OS

Compatibility: Android, iOS

Display: 1.2″ 360 x 360 Super AMOLED

Processor: Dual-core 1.15GHz

Onboard storage: 4GB

Battery duration: Around 2 days

Charging method: Wireless

IP rating: 50m

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

REASONS TO BUY

High-end design, Rotating digital bezel

REASONS TO AVOID

Few features for the price bump, Still limited functionality with iOS

Samsung condensed the best features of the Galaxy Watch into this sportier smartwatch that’s slimmer, lighter, and, arguably, more comfortable – and then released a second version months later that added a rotating digital bezel and an LTE version.

Overall, not much has changed, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing because it’s still a good smartwatch at a reasonable price. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 has a 1.2-inch 360 x 360 display that we found to be bright and beautiful while being smaller than many of the other devices on this list.

It still has all of the high-end fitness features you’d expect from a Samsung Tizen watch, including 39 workout modes, a heart rate and ECG sensor, and a health app with stress and sleep tracking. There’s even a way to keep track of your blood pressure, though it won’t be available for a while.

While it’s still less expensive than the most popular Apple Watch, it’s now more expensive than the original Watch Active, reducing its value in comparison to the competition. It’s not a cheap smartwatch, but when compared to the Galaxy Watch 3, you might prefer to go with this version, which is remarkably similar.

Apple Watch 6

Apple Watch 6

Best Smart Watches in 2022 older Apple Watch

SPECIFICATIONS

OS: watchOS 8

Compatibility: iOS

Display: 1.78″ OLED

Processor: Apple S6

Onboard storage: 32GB

Battery: 18 hours

Charging method: Wireless

IP rating: Water-resistant to 50m

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, LTE

REASONS TO BUY

Great color additions, Always-on display

REASONS TO AVOID

Lacks a headline upgrade. Battery life needs to be longer

The Apple Watch 6 isn’t the best smartwatch on our list, but it is the absolute best device you can get if you own an iPhone. Why isn’t it higher on the list than the Apple Watch SE? Because it is significantly more expensive than that alternative.

The Apple Watch 6 is well worth considering if you plan to stick with Apple’s phones for at least a few years.

However, it isn’t a significant upgrade over the Apple Watch 5. There are some new features, such as blood oxygen monitoring and a faster chipset, but it’s essentially the same device with the same screen and design.

All of that said, if you’re looking for an Apple Watch, this is the best it’s ever been; we were just disappointed by the lack of major upgrades. It’s worth noting, however, that the Apple Watch 7 has now been unveiled. So expect it to make an appearance on this list as soon as it’s available for purchase and we’ve reviewed it.

Honor Magic Watch 2

Honor Magic Watch 2

Best Smart Watches in 2022 for battery life

SPECIFICATIONS

OS: LiteOS

Compatibility: Android, iOS

Display: 1.2-inch / 1.39-inch 454 x 454 AMOLED

Processor: N/A

Onboard storage: 4GB

Battery duration: 7 days / 14 days

Charging method: Magnetic connecting pin

IP rating: Water-resistant

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC

REASONS TO BUY

Strong suite of fitness features, Great battery life

REASONS TO AVOID

Limited non-music features, Attracts dust

If you enjoy working out but don’t think a dedicated sports watch is right for you, the Honor Magic Watch 2 could be the smartwatch for you thanks to its fitness features.

The Honor Magic Watch 2 keeps track of a variety of sports and can even give workout advice and feedback for specific activities. It’s ideal for people who want to get in better shape.

In our tests, the watch also lasts a long time without needing to be charged, up to a week or two weeks depending on which version you buy, and it has a sleek design.

Even though there are a few flaws with the watch, such as its lack of non-fitness features, the fact that its design can easily become dusty and require cleaning, and the fact that many of its fitness features aren’t available on iOS, we can still recommend it as a good smartwatch.

TicWatch Pro 3

TicWatch Pro 3

Best Smart Watches in 2022 for battery life

SPECIFICATIONS

OS: Wear OS

Compatibility: Android, iOS

Display: 1.4″ 454 x 454 OLED paired with LCD screen

Processor: Snapdragon Wear 4100

Onboard storage: 8GB

Battery duration: Up to 72h, 45 extra days in Essential mode

Charging method: Magnetic connecting pin

IP rating: IP68

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC

REASONS TO BUY

The big battery lasts 3 days, Fast chipset

REASONS TO AVOID

Sometimes poor interface, Sleep tracking isn’t the best

The TicWatch Pro 3 is one of the best Wear OS watches available, and it works with both iPhones and Android phones. It has a good battery life and intuitive functionality.

We found this smartwatch to be one of the most powerful on the list, as it uses the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset with 1GB of RAM. Apps load quickly, and we didn’t notice any instances where you had to wait for something to start.

The smartwatch’s battery life is where it really shines, with the company claiming that it can last for over a month in ‘Essential Mode.’ Do you want to keep your smartwatch’s features operational? This smartwatch can still last three days on a single charge.

Furthermore, the price undercuts many other high-end smartwatches, making it a little less expensive than many of the other options on this list.

How we tested

Every Best Smart Watches in 2022 on this list has been fully and extensively reviewed by the expert team at TechRadar, so we know exactly what makes them tick.

Using that knowledge we’ve then ranked them, while also factoring in their price, performance, value, and core specs.

What should I look for when buying a smartwatch?

The first thing to check is whether your phone is compatible with it – you can’t use an Apple Watch with an Android phone, and you can’t use a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 with an iPhone. Beyond that, consider the battery life and the features – how often will you be happy charging it, and what do you need out of your watch?

Which is the best smartwatch?

The best smartwatch changes all the time, but typically you’ll find an Apple or Samsung smartwatch topping the list, as these tend to be packed full of high-end features and polish.
